I’m not a vet, so can’t answer if it’s bad for them; but, we also give our little dogs ice cream. (NOT chocolate!) They love it too. I have noticed that “doggie” ice cream from Kroger called “Frosty Paws” suits their stomachs a lot better. It’s better 4 them. It’s just hard not to give them some of your ice cream when U R having some.

I dont think that dairy products are good for dogs ! give the dog/pup some ice chips my puppies like that plus its funny to watch them chew it up !

  • EVERY summer we brought my dog to the creamy for a baby cone when we went. She loved it and she was fine. She lived over14 human years and the only thing that prevented her form a longer life was slipped disc that were unable to be fixed:(

  • *HODGES*:

i think its okay because my grandma gives her poodle icecream all the time in the summer

  • DogLover:

I’d say probably not…dogs aren’t supposed to have milk and since your dog is so small I wouldn’t risk it. There’s a dog ice cream out there called “Frosty Paws.” They come in little containers and dogs love them, so you should try that. : )

  • Jess:

its fine every once in a while but they also make an ice cream for dogs called frosty paws

  • I like Tommy Shaw:

If you give your dog ice cream once in a while, its good. You should give him vanilla ice cream. Other flavors might make your dog sick. I give my dog vanilla ice cream one in a while and it didn’t hurt her. Make sure not to feed him too much. He’ll get sick.

  • steven b:

    No way!!!
It dehydrates the dog. Equally, never ever give a dog chocolate unless it is dog chocs – you could kill it!!

  • Manders:

Once in a while, it should be okay. May upset his stomach, and give him diarrhea. Keep an eye on him.
I have bought doggy ice cream from my grocery store before. It’s a frozen dog treat. They absolutely loved it. Or you can freeze chicken/beef stock in ice cube trays, and when it’s hot, pop one or two out, and give him that.

They can get upsets stomaches very easily from ice cream. Try getting those freeze pops or plain ice cubes instead. Ice cream also has a lot of sugar which can be hard for a pup to digest and may cause diabetes later so I would stick to ice cubes. I give all 4 of mine cubes and they love it. Some grocery stores also carry ice cream made for dogs so you might want to check that out too.

  • mckahlan:

A few licks NOW AND THEN won’t hurt her, but don’t give her her own bowl or cone, and certainly not regularly. Dogs don’t digest milk well, and they don’t need the fat and sugar anyway.

  • andijxo:

No the sugar and dairy is not good for them – they do make doggy ice cream – you can usually find it somewhere near the people ice cream.

  • meow2_pu:

it is bad for them because it is full of fat and suger

  • Gloria T:

Dairy products aren’t that good for dogs and the sugar in ice cream is terrible for their teeth. Why not try plain ice cubes instead? I’ve yet to find a dog that doesn’t love them.

  • Happy Slappy:

    its fine hunny

  • {{♥say you love me--♪:

well they have special ice cream made for dogs, how bout you get him that instead?

  • Pinklimo:

i make my own ice cream treats for my dogs. regular ice cream has too much sugar and people stuff for them.
i take a mushy banana, penut butter, plain low fat yogurt and a little bit of honey. blend it all up and put it in ice cube trays. they love it!
you can also buy frosty paws from the store.. that is ice cream especially for dogs.

  • Onyx Ninja:

It’s safe (as long as your doggie is not prone to being overweight). Don’t make a habit of it, but it’s fine for a treat once in awhile as long as you stick with vanillia and never ever chocolate :)

  • Kate T.:

okay first off they make an ice cream for dog it is called frosty paws and it is in the grocery store . I have found it in publix ,kash n karry and winn dixie so if you want to get this it is probably better than human ice cream . good luck .

  • once in awhile it is fine. Dogs love milk… heck i buy a small cone for my girl when we are at DQ

  • Peggy C:

It is OK for small dogs part of the time but to much may cause sugar troubles ask a vet if it is OK for your baby. Small breeds are more prone to hypoglycemia and some ice cream will help alleviate this problem

  • ?:

Hello NO DAIRY PRODUCTS for weaned dogs or cats unless you don’t mind them having upset tummies & diarhea !!! They do not digest it well !! Take Care :)

  • Every now and then it’s not going to harm your dog..Although it may give them diarrhea. Like people, dogs react differently to different substances, and in general it’s not made for dogs to be eating. The sugar content alone isn’t a good idea. :) If you really want to give him/her a special treat try finding some “dog pudding” and freezing it. Foster&Smith often has something made especially for this. Then you’ll have no worries!
